Prompt: Take a negative concept and turn it into something positive.
I am an altruistic alchemist
Can turn your grief into gold
locked in the four chambered
safety deposit box
known as your heart.
Yes, despite your baffling belief,
you definitely have one.
I can turn your alert anxiety
into adrenaline × agility.
Why lean into
artificial intelligence when
you can be a superhuman?
I can make you forgive
your parents —
they did their best after
all —
and most important
of all,
make you love yourself
and show yourself
the grace you extend
unto others.
I am your therapist.
Don’t forget our call!

Not sure if you're being perfectly serious here or slightly tongue-in-cheek, but as a graduate of several years of psychotherapy in my twenties (though not psychodynamic therapy as such) I agree with you that its helpfulness can be crucial. Hate to think where I might have been without it – or even if I would have been at all.
ReplyDeleteI think you can cut this line 'known as your heart.' It's not necessary for comprehension. Nice write Samy 👏

ReplyDeleteYay for the bold therapist! We all need that self-promotion and assertion! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is alchemy when someone can help us turn grief into gold. And most important to help people recognise their own self-worth. Beautifully done
ReplyDeleteMy favourite line - "I...can turn your grief into gold." Alchemy indeed.
