Sometimes
Whatever you touch turns to gold
And people sing your praises
And name their babies after you
But mostly
It is a crap fest
And walk in the dark
A whole lot of ‘learning’ and ‘hardwork’
Without reward or due.
It is very easy to get disheartened
Or a whiny loser
A self-fulfilling prophecy
Which can be avoided
With a bit of grit
Bite your teeth
Get down to work
Not to prove anyone wrong
But prove yourself right
The world openly admires talent
And secretly respects hardwork
Become as good as you think you are
Take these bad days as a boon
Or fool yourself with any b.s
Anything which helps you sleep at night
So that you live to fight and win another
day.
Actual experience makes clichés real
And superstition into faith
And a bad day
A good one
And that's how we go on, changing our response, expectations and experience. Good one. Thank you.

DeleteAnd that's the zing of life!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed akka :D
DeleteIt's always good to be realistic. Nice.
ReplyDeleteA good serve of reality without the saccharine dessert. Enjoyed !
ReplyDeleteHaha I never liked sweet stuff anyways
DeleteExactly! Well said.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I loved it. Especially " Not to prove anyone wrong
ReplyDeleteBut prove yourself right ". Hard work is certainly underrated!
Thank you :)
DeleteHello Samyuktha,
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! Thank you for sharing.
I'm hoping that more and more, the work openly respects hard work. And to respect it even if there's no success tied to it yet.
Best,
Sigrid
Thank you. I agree
DeleteThis is all such good advice.
ReplyDeleteSome good advice here.........you have expressed it well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry :)
DeleteYep. Was having a discussion yesterday about how we must appreciate our children saying 'you must have worked really hard for it' rather than 'you are talented'. Loved the transition in the poem to an inspirational one
ReplyDeleteThank You! Yeah that's the way to bring up kids. Even if you're talented you need to put in the hours
DeleteAbsolutely! ❤
ReplyDeleteI like the message of this poem. My favorite part: " Bite your teeth / Get down to work / Not to prove anyone wrong / But prove yourself right"
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeletePowerful message beautifully shared! Love it!
