What is it to be kind ,
In this mocking (modern)
Day and age?
To smile at a stranger
Give them the heeby jeebies 😬
Be a loyal friend
Who money can’t amend
To trust in humanity
And better side of this
Cunning(human) populace?
To just be decent
With no strings attached .
To be good
To more than just your blood.
And to do all this
Even when no one is really watching.
(I think I can’t come up with a better picture for this poem. Two of the kindest souls 😚)
Okay my kindness quota for the year is over 😂
It is one of the unfortunate hallmarks of this age that people seem more at ease with casual cruelties. I hope that changes.
ReplyDeletePoignant!❤️ Unfortunately these are inhumane times which we are living in ... sigh ...
ReplyDeleteWell-penned! To do all these things when no one is watching is what really matters — the rest is just lip-service or seeking validation.
ReplyDeleteKindness and goodness...........the recipe for inner peace.....I love the poem and the lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteHa... I like the ending. You can cross that off the shopping list now.:) You have an true understanding of modern life.:) Enjoyed this poem.
ReplyDeleteIf only kindness was second nature. You make the longing for it clear, though the tone i lighter, distant, even mocking. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWell penned, loved it. A lovely photo also.
ReplyDeleteI misunderstood that Tuesday on TOADS is an open link. My apologies, Now that I am straightened I like your post here, very much.
ReplyDeleteSadly we are encouraged to be competitive which reduces our ability to be kind. Even a polite smile may be considered threatening rather than a greeting that means I come in peace. Luckily now people look at this old man I am and think "he's okay" rather than "what does he want?"
ReplyDeleteBeautiful that all is kindness especially "no strings attached" as kindness is often under the veil of What is in it for me
ReplyDeleteSelf-evident as they may appear, they make me think.
ReplyDeleteYes, to just be kind, doesn't seem to fit the modern model, but it blesses the soul. Lovely poem!
ReplyDeleteGiving without worrying about whether you get in return---that's kindness.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem and photo!
