Kiwi caipiroska

Golden hands
Can pour no wrong.
With a pinch of salt
We forget all their faults
I sip my kiwi caipiroska
Willing to take me back in time
To places which only existed in my mind
Where the golden sun
Didn’t hate the silver moon
Every day was a noon
Akin to a silver spoon.
Next round please
This time add pepper and honey
Maybe a few notes of mahogany
I’m gonna scream a symphony
A woman’s baritone
A man’s lullaby
World shouldn’t make sense
Should words?
Just get me the whole pitcher.

The First Dosa

I would like to thank all my readers - new and old - for the constant support and feedback. Steady Meanderings has gained a new lease of life because of you all. You guys are my biggest blessing! :)

Okay that sounded so cheesy and so unlike me :P

Listening to feedback is very crucial  feel and I have been getting requests to revert back to my long articles and short stories. But you see the problem is that, once you cross over to poetry which is so quaint and beautiful , prose feels cumbersome ugly and crass. If  I can make my point in 50 lovely words , why stretch it out to a 500 inconsequential ones?
What I am saying is that I used to be a story teller but now I've now become a writer. I have been giving importance to style over substance and I know that is not the best thing to happen to me. So I will try to balance both and I am committing to that by registering it here.
Since a cross over from poetry to prose is not the easiest thing ever , I'm going to try to capture the stream of conscious thoughts that's flowing through my head right now.
We all have to start somewhere right?
This post's soul feels this way
The heavy poetry hangover is palpable but please bear with me.
My mom says that the first dosa is always bad. But only if you get done with it , you can move on to better crispy ones :) and that is what this post is attempting to do. Scratch the pan before making more delicious things.

Blessing Midweek Motif - I have become an avid participant of the poets united's midweek prompts. There is nothing more satisfying for a writer than to find a community of like minded souls sharing their work and mutual appreciation :)
The midweek motif for this week is 'blessing' and like I said in the beginning readers are my biggest blessing.
" More often than not we rarely spot the blessings we have been awarded from the almighty nature. Sometimes because we don't recognise the almighty but most times because we don't know that they are a blessing. We are too afraid to open the gift life has awarded us. Especially since life loves handing out Jackfruits. Prickly on the outside but oh so sweet on the inside. "

"Some people may have had cheap jackfruit off the road. A cursing in a blessing disguise. Wolf in sheep's clothing if you may call it. And so when the real fruit of our labour comes along we are too afraid to taste them .What a shame"  ( I had a bad experience with it when i was 8. Now i have a lifelong aversion)
" Moving away from the now overused Jackfruit metaphor , sometimes we are not aware that we possess is a blessing. Only when we lose or afraid we are going to lose it , that goddamn curse turns out to be your bestie bff blessing,"
" If you never ever do find out your blessings from your curses , may god save you. "

No post is complete without a ruby meme :D

My convoluted message is that

1) Spot thy blessings asap

2) Cherish them

3) Don't be a complaining mona

4) This can be in relation to people , incidents , the seemingly shitty  sucky trick life life played on you.

Iwilltakethisoppurtunity to Thank Srishti Swati  and Raju / Mona Darling aka Rajeshwari for being there always. If i put myself through what i put you both through , I would have unfriend AND block myself. Thank you for ending up in ILS by accident and making my life so much better ^_^

I would love to put a pic up , but fearing gaudiness I am not putting up.

If this post nothing to you , take my peace offering :-

Okay bye.

Because..food!

Okay. There is this very stupid notion that foodies are fat. Oh person who thinks that way! I hate to break it to you. Loving food has nothing to do with how much you can eat (alone). There is this saying that Quality trumps Quantity and that's what I am talking about. Trying different variety of food is also an activity via which a person can show their love. And I preach so much because I fall into that category.
The category of persons who love ordering and tasting different things but too scared to do so because they don't wanna waste food and be a threat to the society. ( No , that didn't escalate. Food wastage is an endemic we can ill afford)
Writing is how I express emotions. And what better emotion to express about than the express one I have towards food? I am going to share the pictures of and give reviews of the yum food I tasted in the awesome restaurants I happened to visit in the last few days. Belt up! The ride is fun , I swear.

1.  IDDOS , KOTHRUD , PUNE

check it here
4 feet dosa

GHEE RIDDEN PONGAL

MOLGAPODI IDLI

FILTER KAAPI

Okay. Now that I have your eyeballs glued to the screen , let me begin. After a month of spending time away from home , nothing speaks to you more than your home food. South India is where I come from and IDDOS is hands down the best restaurant to have south Indian food in Pune. While the likes of Vaishali and Wadeshwar suffer from a case of severe overratedness , Iddos goes about serving awesome food quietly.
Things to eat :
1) 4 feet dosa : Crispy , looong dosa with yummy tomato chutney. The sambhar wasn't that great but better than most. They also serve coconut and green chutney. Didn't like the green chutney.
2) Pongal : One of the few places which serve pongal in Pune. If you're a fan of ghee you're in for a big treat! Just melts in your mouth :')
3) Molagapodi idli : Tiny button idlis marinated and drenched in chilly powder is just what you need to lift your day to the next level
4) Filter coffee: Nowhere near my grandmom's coffee :P but way better than your garden variety bru. Seeing the manual filter and davara tumbler ( cup and saucer) set just lifts your heart.

2. Picantos Mexican Grill , Aundh , Pune :
check it here
Went with the whole squad

Creamy chicken Mini bowl and chicken enchiladas

Tacos

Cinnamon dusted churros in chocolate sauce

A nice restaurant to go with your friends. They had games like monopoly , scrabble and Uno. Also , they served very quickly when we kept hitting them with volume,
What to try :
1) Cheesy chicken mini bowl : Surprisingly fresh for the amount of cheese involved , lots of fresh veggies , chicken , rice and of course cheese!
2) Tacos: Yummy tortilla shells stuffed with the perfect blend of kidney beans , chicken , tomato salsa and sauce! Dish of the day
3) Chicken Enchiladas: Jam packed with flavor and cheese. This one is a keeper!
4) Churros: An interesting eat. While the churros and chocolate sauce were yum , your affinity towards cinnamon ultimately decides if this dish is a hit or a miss.

What I am having today :-
So the cook took a holiday today. So ordered in bomber chicken burger with coke from Rush hrs , kothrud , Pune! I shall update on that soon.

Bah humbug!

It's been a really long time since I wrote on this space. Looks like time wastage is faster than water wastage after all . So what's been up ? Life! :P I've been trying to do more reading and yoga ,i.e. , trying to go back to who I used to be lol
literally
Subtle message to everyone - I'm turning 18- on this March's 25th day!! ^_^_^_^_^_^
a) please courier/hand deliver my gifts. Material gifts preferred over genuine wishes from the heart .
b) the significance of this number EIGHTEEN.

Talking more on a) will only further depreciate my public image so let's move on to b)  - the so called crux of this post ( if you are really searching for one here)

aaHH . . it's so nice to be back in sss :')
well said xD

There is always this irrational hysterical hype surrounding birthdays once we hit pre / teens
Miss the good old days of simply cutting a mickey mouse shaped cake wearing party hats and having potato chips and coke with that! Seriously , what is so special about turning older? Growing up is overrated . Sadly we learn that only when we do *sighs*
The only surprise in surprise birthdays is how the birthday kid acts surprised -_-
For more intel on b'days click ----> here

Notwithstanding this usual nonsense , we have to feel happier on our 18th - because we are supposedly ....'legal' or majors. Roughly translated this means that we can continue to do what we've already been doing - this time with legal sanction. I don't seen any parents turning cooler with curfews and higher authorities will simply find other reasons to catch us .
So what does one actually get to do when they turn 18?
1) Act surprised in the midnight when parents/hostel mates invade your room with delicious chocolate cake and apply it all over your face .
should i add more feels?
2) Say innumerable thank yous to the unbearably innumerable "Happy b'day! You're 18! party hard. " Not to sound ungrateful , but replying to the 87th post on your wall is not as cheerful a task as it is to replying to the 3rd one . Also - posting 'HBD' is worse than posting nothing at all. There are many ways to save time - Abbreviation is not one .

3) You get to watch A certified films in the theater . While admittedly , it IS useful for puny people like me to have an ID card to prove their actual age , It is highly redundant among the common mass of teens, who due to their sheer looks and height pass off as adults and have watched a hundred million A films in theater already. Also the theater owners don't really check . -____-

4) You get convicted for offences . With great age comes greater responsibility and greater punishment .

5) Another catchphrase for your mother to insult you with. Instead of saying " Samyuktha! you are seven donkey years now and still don't take care of yourself " she says you are 18 now
.
6) You get to vote . But that is only if you turn 18 before January 2014 . Choosing between a possible authoritarian , an idiot and an impractical aadmi doesn't seem very appealing though. Still Universal adult franchise is our unequivocal right - all of us MUST vote irregardless of the bleak political climate. Register a no vote in the machine - but do vote! Unless we exercise our duty cum right  , we don't have the right to moan and complain.

Got sidetracked by sensible thoughts. Where was I? .... * slaps her head* *really loses track* *reads the text again*

Yes!  It has been a long time since I blogged . Bear with the cynical tone and abruptness in flow . Will get my swag back soon :) (hopefully :P ) and my b'day IS coming up . But your wishes are more than enough to fill  my lil heart (simply putting on a front) .Birthdays are actually nice in the sense that they acknowledge the existence of a person and make them feel truly special . Also turning 18 means accepting adulthood and responsibility for one's actions - as pretentious as it may sound now , it is the first baby step towards true independence at least a symbolic landmark . Like buying stationery or going to temple before starting to study for your twelfth board exams .

All the best and advanced congratulations to all those who are writing there board exams :) If you're actually reading my blog now , it means you are procrastinating at the highest level and you are probably bored to death . Just remember that you can bask in the glory of this one focused month for months to come :D

P.S - (To be more subtle) Please do something for my b'day. I'm not this choosy in real life xP

ek gaon mein ek kisan raghu thatha! :P

It's been a week in Pune already!! :O
and believe it or not  - I have fallen in love with this city! <3
or maybe it is just another one of my defense mechanisms , protecting me from shocks. Whatever this is , it has aroused me enough, to write a post! So let me finish this before reality sinks in .
( Side note :
hahaha

Defense mechanisms are pretty intriguing . Do you know that I haven't cried a single tear drop yet? My friends think it is some kind of sacrilegious blasphemy from my  part. But hey! If pessimists argue that I have effectively ended one life , I argue back that I have just started a new one :) I do miss chennai . However , I am not going to go gaga over it. Okay I just did . )
I haven't had much chance to discover the city in its entirety yet. But , from whatever I have seen - it is fresh , green , pleasant and mindnumbingly beautiful :')

So here it is . The elusive list of things I have noticed about Pune and my new life in general :

Not THIS adventurous generally :P
1) I was never a nature loving person or that's what I thought. However , climbing the hill in my college ( yes , there is a hill in my college :O ) changed that perspective. The liberating atmosphere , the refreshing smell of pure , fresh air is well worth the climbing - which in itself is exciting and adventurous! Also , I am for the first time realizing that there are four types of climate in a year :P Living in chennai can easily erase this fact into a mere illusion. Back there it is either hot or hotter :')
And in other seemingly related news I got crowned 'Miss Green' by the Mess Bhaiya ( more like a thatha actually :P ) Don't start clapping already - I got called that because i was wearing a green kurthi LOL

2) My new friend rightly said , " Here in Pune , people talk to you in Marathi . If you don't know that they'll talk to you in Hindi and after that they stop." Yeah that's right. English doesn't work with the rickshaw wallahs . Coming from Tamil Nadu , a state which has fervently opposed Hindi often in the past and which doesn't give importance to Hindi in it's education system - I am at a huge loss here . It doesn't help matters that I hated my L3 hindi teacher and in turn conditioned my hatred towards that subject. To all the young readers out there - Learn HINDI. It is very hard to learn later and in this increasingly globalized world it is good to know 3-4 languages . And learning the 'official' language of your country is never a wrong place to start :)
The fundamental problem with most Tamils in this regard ( I am heavily generalizing here ) can be summed up with one joke in a yesteryear Bhagyaraj film , which sadly is still popular. Instead of saying ' Ek Gaon me ek kisan rahta ta' the hero mispronounces it as ' ek gaun me ek kisan raghu thatha' Thatha means grandfather in tamil and raghu is a common name. And ever since then Hindi has been ridiculed and not learnt -_-

3) I love the food here. My hosts may think I'm being overly polite when i say I love roti over rice. Fact is I actually love north Indian food :') Being open to trying new dishes has finally helped this time. Thank you masterchef australia for opening my eyes about food :*

4) Heavily generalizing , yes. I find the pace of Pune to be much slower than Chennai . Maybe it is the monsoon's cozy feel . It perfectly suits a lazy person like me :')

5) It doesn't hurt that folks back home miss me . Makes one feel loved ,you know :P ( even though this may  only last for a short while)
perfectly put by some random citizen :P

6) Lastly but not the least , I am very proud of my new found independence. I make my own bed , wash my own clothes :O , do my dishes etc. Being self sufficient makes one immediately feel adult like :D I was so proud when I wore the tee shirt, which i had washed with my own hands ^_^  P.S - This doesn't mean that I'll do housework when i come back home to chennai xP Home is where the ass lays ;')

Random realization - Blood clots are very random o.O

Food for thought

"I should totally blog today."
you can succeed only if you try

After 21 days of fruitless inaction , I thought it was my mind playing mirage-like tricks with me again. Then I realized it was my lack of determination and fear of writing bad posts, that has caused this drought .  Remembering  what Hrithik Roshan said after his disastrous 'kites' in Kofee with karan  - it was something like ," You have to do something in the first place for it to be right or wrong. Worrying about an exam before writing it won't get you anywhere" Thank god he did write his exam - and we got zindagi na milegi dobara :')
So I should totally blog today. But I'm not guaranteeing you any quality.

Ironically QUALITY has become my biggest problem right now. I don't even know what I mean when I use that word. But , I read all the blogs out there - enormous amounts of talent and potential :O and the sheer amount of posts in a month stun me. However there tends to be more misses than hits when you generate 50 posts a month ( or so I think ). When I was young, I used to cry to my mom about how my friends always wrote more pages than me during an exam and she calmly reassured me that ' quality is more important than quantity'. So I try to give my best every post and pray that at least half of what I hoped to convey reaches you.
I do promise you one thing ( i hardly promise anything in my blog - as I almost never keep it up :P) I will concentrate on writing more in this forum for at least my sake, if not yours.

Sorry for the writer's rant :P I am sure fellow bloggers will understand. I needed to let it out of my system to progress . In this post I hope to 'rebuild my empire '  and give you tidbits of insights that have struck me this summer.

1)  Food for thought - I watched master chef USA 3 as it aired on t.v . I was never a huge fan of  the USA version in comparison to Australia as the former relied more on drama and antics, than anything remotely related to food. However ,since becoming the admin of 'Gordon Ramsay memes' ( see how I subtly put it? :P ) I felt an overwhelming sense of duty to watch the show . And surprise! this season was more about the food than about hate speech towards one other! :O And the most surprising of all - the winner of a cookery contest was blind. I heard tales of 'fixing' permeate the room but the truth is always far more inspiring :)
The finale was between the industrious josh and artistic christina. It reminded me one thing about food which we tend to forget somewhere in the over complicated world of reality shows - taste always triumphs . Josh produced stunning looking dishes with complex techniques but Christine simply made food full of flavor and yumminess . At the end of the day ,we do not care if the food is sauteed or grilled as long it tastes heavenly :)

2)That moment- After reading Agatha Christie's innumerable mysteries , I was very keen to get an idea
The eye in your mind paints things differently
about what went through her head and picked up her autobiography. Surprise! She led a very normal Victorian life , befitting the era. She puts us at such consummate ease, that her writing tips made sense to amateurs like me :') Among other things , she was a world traveller at a time it was enormously difficult to global trot for women . She didn't want to re visit countries she had already been to - she didn't think she could re capture the magic of the first venture. And somehow I totally emphasize with her . If she is scared of revisiting her favorite spots on earth , I am afraid of re reading my favorite books for the same reason. Every book has some poignant memory associated with it , and it is tough to breach the same ground without the feeling that it won't be as good as the first time. Sounds like blasphemy - but I haven't read even Harry potter more than once! :O

*Wow this post has drained me already :/ *

3)  The end? - The greyest book I have read in recent times is Dan Brown's Inferno . Among other things the book's plot is about the threat of overpopulation and that it will lead to extinction. Ironically living in India , I haven't really thought about that angle much. The 'antagonist' wants to wipe off 1/3rd of world's population , so that mankind can survive from extinction for a longer time . Is man made disaster the answer?  Should humans take this matter into their hands? Genetic engineering looks appealing from the outset , however its potential for danger makes it scarier than nuclear bombs. Should we interfere with evolution just because we assume we are 'superior' races? but what is the alternative - waiting for the inevitable? That doesn't sound very homo sapien -y :P I am asking instead of answering because I'm very confused about this topic and I don't want to make an uninformed statement or create an opinion too fast. If the book was true , you'll forget what you just read and deny that overpopulation maybe the end.
The book does conveniently ignore the enormous amount of resources trapped with the very rich - which has already resulted in general squalor in the 'bottom' rungs.

"The darkest places of hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality during times of moral crisis "

cheer up till then

Block and Tackle

For the most of our lives , we force ourselves to some goal . So much so that we drive ourselves mad and end up quitting and consider a life of a priesthood. You can't blame us though , for the likes of nityananda and baba ramdev seem to prosper with fame and money due to people's ignorance . So i have taken the other path , not the rat race nor the path for quitters. Instead , I just don't do anything. I try not to think about the task I have to perform , I try hard to ignore.
I try having fun elsewhere, tucking the task to the fringes of my consciousness. Like pressing one's head deep within water , so hard that some opposing force will push it back. Only problem is you need to make sure that you don't drown or choke yourself with all the enthusiasm. What I am trying to blabber is this , by consciously trying NOT to blog , I have gained the thirst to write more than ever. Our minds are like that of an adamant child suffering from oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) . Do the complete opposite to the instructions given. Break the rules , breed the rebel , etc etc. And it seems to be working quite well!
This time I wanna talk about contradictions. We teenagers thrive on it , don't we?
When I first stumbled upon blogger , I met with an empty 'about me' column . Without even thinking for a second I filled it up as "Hey this is semi. And contradictions is the word defining me". I didn't know why I filled it up. the more I think of it , the more sense it makes now.Only when i was reading this other blog called 'shh diaries' (which i find to be a very gutsy and cool blog) and seeing the blogger's profile , i realized that everyone of us are filled with contradictions! :O Call me dumb or use 'You don't say' on me! But it was only then that i realized that every one of us are riddled with contradictions.
The blogger there , Shruti described herself as
"Not yet another teenager calling herself to be full of contradictions "
or something like that. Her latest description is also hilarious :D
"Bullshittery is a way of life here."

Coming back to contradictions! Our lives are riddled with them. Every coin has a flip side pa ;  The toughest conflicts are between two undesirable decisions we have to take ( or avoidance avoidance conflicts ) says my ever trustable psychology textbook. Eg. don't go to the dentist or have tooth decay , Don't eat junk food or become fat or something like that.
For that matter , every issue has right and wrongs. It is usually our inclination to one particular stand or our fervor to one ideology which overshadows the other. Lets take one of the oldest topics , where both sides fight vehemently for their cause. Veg vs Non Veg. Basically vegetarians are of two types : Who don't eat animals because they genuinely love them or because their culture demands them to do so ( and they have never really tasted meat) The non vegetarians are basically humans who really like what they are eating and find no qualms about what they are eating as long as it is tasty.
so simply putting it . There are a few factors like taste , culture and love for animals . Whichever dominates or finds more importance in the individual's value/moral system it will play out as his attitude , action and behaviour towards a situation. This is a simple fact which many of us can't see. I actually know a friend , who loves animals like dogs and other pets , yet being a non vegetarian from birth her taste buds makes her eat chicken and turkey . This is a classic contradiction and we cannot really say that she is wrong or right .
Why cannot we judge a person who are true to their contradictions?
I just had to put this up :*
It is simply because they are being themselves and acting according to their set of ideologies. How can you question their ethics with your set of ethics? it is like correcting a history paper with a science key. All this , you must understand is applicable , only if it doesn't hurt some other individual and their possessions. We can not say Dexter is right in killing people , just because it is okay to follow your  ideals. He is taking another Human's life  , whether that man deserve to live or not is another matter altogether.
After reading what I have written till now , I find a major contradiction which you might have missed. Being a NV myself , I do not mind a hen being killed , even if she is good or bad . But I just cannot accept that an individual ,whether good or evil , can deserve to be killed. This is because I do place more value to a man's life than a hen's . How many of you can really ready to accept this IF you feel so?
I find humans astonishing . Really. Before studying the history of world wars , we surely  expect some big reason to be the cause for all the calamity. Alas! It is because of this slight distortion. This inability to accept that 'hell! WE ARE DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER.  Everyone has a life with their own right and wrongs , which i admit must fit into some sort of general  framework right and wrongs, but No! Our egos say we are ultimately doing the right thing.
And every side fights for what it thinks is right.
grow up! You cannot blame anybody, Not even your ego . the poor thing is trying to defend yourself and your decisions by calling it the best. Doesn't mean it is...it is just to make your decision making easier.

What I am trying to convey is  :

  • Stop trying to judge someone's actions  when you don't even know them. Give them the space , so that you get their moral code to decipher their actions. Eg. People who don't get sarcasm think the other person intends to be rude .
  • Don't go around boasting how your decisions are the best.
  • Maybe I am confusing enough to be the next spiritual leader!! :D
  • All the wars which were ever fought and will be fought are pointless.

War does not determine who is right... only who is left

Samyuktha (semi) Jayaprakash

Thou shall be surprised

Once upon a time , (yes this story WILL start like a story) , there lived a girl called Samyuktha. She was forever fifteen years old , while her friends whizzed past and reached the sweet sixteen landmark and some even reached the purgatory called 17 ( you neither are sweet 16 - the age to be in or the important 18 - where you officially become an adult! ) And you couldn't even blame her itch to become an year older! For a person whose height reduces her age by big margins and her body weight which brought about both mock and genuine surprise at the previously unseen levels of malnourished -ness, you couldn't deny her birthright - age.
The poor child needed at least her age to broadcast her level of maturity. Her mental maturity at best could be called childish. Although there was no guarantee that people would believe her age even if it was genuine - as if she could take her birth certificate wherever she went?! her previously mentioned mental maturity didn't let her think about this much!
So she waited and waited , through her pre annual exams from February to her annuals in march. She also waited through the seven arduous days of holidays where no thought except the one of her b'day was allowed to flourish. In her quiet exile to her cousin's place where she was kicked out as soon as school closed she played the almost sacrilegious  play station 3 which stunned her own cousin , who himself had played it everyday since it was bought and couldn't decipher her levels of fervor towards the games!
The night before THE day she started to doubt herself. 'Why couldn't I have been less rude on my friends... at least for a month! Nobody likes me! :O no one shall surprise me. I am so stupid and arrogant , I should have arranged my own party. At least some people would have been bound to attend it. At least for courtesy sake!"  All this was thought in the protagonist's own dialect ; Cheri Tamil. But for the sake of prestige and finesse ( and clarity of course) she forbids herself from going there here.
By this time she was back in her own house - her own centenarian , almost fragile yet majestic house whose pink color looked more like black nowadays.  In her own bed she lay , thinking these pessimistic thoughts and hoping that someone did surprise her tomorrow . She had very good reasons to expect a surprise party :

  1. She was going to be 16.
  2. She had friends.
  3. The poor child hadn't had a birthday party since her second standard one.
The first point has been elaborated enough in the initial paragraphs . The second point can be found be everywhere in the author's blog ( feel free to meddle the archives) and so , the third one shall be the focus for now. As we all know now , samyuktha wasn't the healthiest child and her parents not the wealthiest. However , there weren't a shortage for parties when she was a young child.
It is true that parents love you more when you were young ,as you were cuter and didn't have brains or the tongue to attack them with. Yet the logic defied her! Why would they keep awesome parties when she was too young to enjoy or appreciate them? and expect her to be mature and be a saint when she was in the ripe age to enjoy them?! Concluding that parents are more dilogical than illogical sometimes we move on.
As she was small , she was shy and a loner in her young years. So people invited to her party were invariably her dad/mom's friends children , neighbors and cousins. She did remember one school mate being called. A lad by the name koushik , who was her best friend till 2nd ( he was quiet like her :P so all they did was enjoy the silence or so I imagine) and who mysteriously disappeared out of her ife after that. It must be noted that he did study in the same school and all , but they never me/spoke after that! strange uh?
These parties were trademarked by the 'party hats' almost threatening to choke the kids with their dangerously thin elastic bands , and the usual cakes in the forms of mickey mouse or spiderman! and the paper cups filled with orange miranda and plates with the greasy pieces of cake ,  potato chips and sometimes a samosa or a sweet. Samyuktha's memory of these parties were from the innumerable photos her dad had taken in his camera as it is rightly said in her psychology textbook that children do not have any true memory of their formative years.( excepting some episodic memories or scenes)
Although she wasn't demanding such outrageously awesome parties from her friends , she did expect a kutti cake from french loaf as they get that for almost every tom , dick and harry. However , so much was her apprehension that she suddenly started questioning the very fabrics of her friendship with them.
After being wished promptly at 12 , she sleepily woke up the next morning - amidst the ringing of phone bells , from the early rising relatives of hers. "This is it", she thought! Embracing herself for any outcome she walked the stairs of her school on a Sunday... there in the room was her class teacher to whom her mom informed that it was samyuktha's b'day! As if that would solve all the forthcoming problems. "What is going on?" she wondered .None of her friends were around , she wasn't going to be surprised after all. Hmmm , maybe surprise wasn't all birthdays were about. She turned back to her teacher who opened the blue bundle next to her and retrieved her report card...........
The contents of it aren't necessary here. But lets say she wasn't overly happy about her result. One thing lacking in the her family was definitely ambition. So at least nobody would crib about her marks - anyways she was definitely not informing anyone about it in the first place. She walked back slowly home with her mom for company. She was definitely a tad sad ; but pleasantly, turning 16 had improved her mental maturity.
She didn't give up hope though ; when her mom escorted her to 'saibaba' temple she did have a doubt. She hadn't even done that well to gift the god 2 bucks. Yet, it was just another red herring. "Samyuktha Jayaprakash thou shall not be surprised. Get over it and enjoy the remnants of your b'day." So she started getting prepared for the dinner which was later on in the evening and attending calls more properly.
Her mom then came up to her and asked her what she was going to do with the guitar she got for her b'day. With the attitude that comes with 16 years on earth she replied "play obviously". Mom like a mom always is, gets immediately perturbed and is like "you better join a class or I am donating it to the poor". She says ok. Her mom being the worker bee she is , immediately called some guitar sir and who asked her to come @ 4 .
Now Samyuu was actually excited." Learning to play a guitar ON my b'day!! How cool! And that too a 'sir"'. Must be some young stud with tattoos all over him! She was definitely excited . So excited that she didn't  get a doubt when her mom said it was unnecessary to bring a guitar along and when the class was in 'mash' a place popular for its surprise parties.
It was definitely one of the best days of her life!! With the 6 people who seemed perfect to host the day for her. Nomi , suno , Disha , rhea from her present school and Shruti and Sahi from her old school. She had the best cupcake of her life and some tough time trying to react - which didn't happen ( with all the years being lonely :P) and had fun talking nonsense as usual. She would really like to thank her wonderful friends for all their effort and an awesome day. And promises everyone a big hug when she meets them! <3 :*

P.S - She is still trying to get over the fact that she didn't have guitar classes and that her MOM fooled her :O

Lets BURST - with Happiness?!

Its been exactly 18 days since I blogged. This time even I don't know why I took a break! The only comforting incident would have been when my friend said ' Semi, its been so long since you posted a link on my wall' . Haha , the ways in which they commute their love for my blog :P and the ways I spam them xD

I know I need to blog something worthwhile but my brain doesn't seem to be working - probably because  my grandmom is gossiping tambhram stuff sitting right next to me!! xO So please don't expect a masterpiece - read with low expectations and close the tab with fulfillment!!

Now please sniff the air around you - what do you smell??? The last few gasps of fresh air I bet. Don't you understand??? Diwali is in the AIR!!! For all those  with an  unforgivably low I.Q  Diwali is the bestest festival Hinduism has to offer!! Not satisfied with this understandable definition? Then suffer. :

"Diwali (also spelled Devali in certain regions) or Deepavali,[1] popularly known as the "festival of lights", is an important festival in HinduismJainism, and Sikhism, celebrated for different reasons, occurring between mid-October and mid-November"
or so says Wikipedia , which is user defined. *dramatic pause* I have always had this doubt! Isn't the whole of internet 'user defined' ??!
Yeah. Enough of '??' to cover my lack of content. and lets jump back to the topic - DIWALI.
What makes this festival so much FUN? Lets go in order :

  • Wake up early in the morning at 4 AM (umm .. not exactly fun. But my mom will be proud x)

  • Have this really intense oil bath. Almost all the hygienic problems of India will get solved if we have diwali everyday . Almost everyone has a bath on that day and some have baths ONLY on that day.
Tool of the trade!

  • Easily the BEST and WORST part of Diwali. Yes , the Crackers!!! Start with 'bhusvaanam' or the flower pots , the ashok chakars or the colourful wheels (?) , then moves on to the explosives or the vedi. This includes the atom or hydrogen bombs and are louder than they sound xD also the desi sparrow shots or the kuruvi vedi and other vedis named after deities!! THEN we have the show stealers - Rockets and fancy fireworks! They light up the sky and look beautiful *grr* (just got a goose bump) I would love to yap on more about crackers ^_^  then I wouldn't know what I am saying and it would be 'all smoke and no fire'
curse me :P

  • When you are about to light the 100 wala and just about to start all the noise and smoke - be sure of one thing. Grandmother will play spoilsport. But for a good reason I say ( notice the quick gun murugan slang) - she brings in a plate full of SWEETS and SNACKS. and with all the gunpowder which refuses to let go even when washed you grasp the food  and bite.........YUM!

  • If you really don't want those extra pounds and are not really interested in crackers as such (:O) I have a quick solution for you - MOVIES. All the best movies of the year get released during diwali . PROOF - 7am arivu (the seventh brain) featuring Surya <3 =* and shruti haasan is releasing on diwali!!!! Of course Sharukh Khan's Much hyped Ra. One which I must admit looks too good to be true with a Robot SRK ( he actually looks kinda cute...) and a ravishingly desi kareena kapoor! Also Vijay's Velayutham - where he is a milkman with superhuman abilities and 2 girlfriends ( Swear on god that is the one liner!) and Dhanush's  Mayakkam Enna which has won its first round with the MUSIC xD
  • I know ... getting tickets the first day is tough =( If so , you can always switch on the idiot box. I bet there will be lots on offer ( although the schedules haven't been released yet) Axn is doing a ' x factor' marathon on that day I heard - NO thank you.

  • Get together with family and friends. Bursting with your friends - in happiness and in crackers- is awesome. The day is surely entertaining with at least one person bombing the other!! Last year I burst an atom bomb in my hand xO - No don't feel for me , I didn't follow ANY safety protocols - I rock. More freakish - To help a scaredy cat of a friend ,my cousin yuyu decide to hold that guys hand. After not lighting up the 7 shots for atleast twenty minutes that crazy bugger did light it! Happy right? No :P Yuyu was caught off guard and all the 7 shots hit his eye!
  • Scaring the dogs which scare / chase you for the rest of the year ( I know right? I aM evil. )
Isn't the air infected with Diwali - ness already?? At least I am!! For once I am happy to be born this way!

umm........I am supposed to be a responsible blogger. At the same time , I don't preach what I don't do. So which side do I take? Crackers DO pollute the earth...but so do cars , fridges , autos , factories and plastics. Being a wimp and not bursting anything sux , however being a daredevil and bombing your house is also not very...feasible. So as usual I take all the stances semi in nature =) ( what a cool way to be diplomatic! xD )

and We Burst!!!
                                                                                                                               Bosomed with FUN
                                                                                                                                   SEMI xD
