Writing a wrong

For the PU prompt ‘ to write about a time when we realized we were wrong about something, and what we did after the realization hit us.’

I thought I was making the right choice

At that time

You ticked all the boxes

on paper

Soon

I was boxed into a corner

Crushed by your corny love

Heck I wasn’t even horny no more.

I decided to sleepwalk through life

If I opened my eyes truly

We both knew

This would be already over

You lovingly blindfolded me

I loathingly cuckolded you.

I woke up one day

And decided to live the truth

Consequences be damned

I still remember your cries

As I sunk into my sofa

We were away by so far

Yes

I never deserved this

Kind of love

But you said

I’m incapable of love

Called me a robot

The only time you spoke your mind

Was when I was leaving you behind.

I bleed too.

I’m thriving now

Hope you are too

Golden Brown

All the gloss , glitter and glue
Cannot photoshop the sheer phobia
Lurking right beneath her skin
Forming a palpable layer,
They attack her
Only when no one is watching.

She seems so bold
But is actually quite brittle
Her quiet melancholy
Muddled by her extensive cacophony.

She is indeed a prisoner of her own device
Trapped in bravado
She just wants to cry.
Yet when her man is watching
She cannot let him see
If the truth is really exposed
Won’t he just flee?

Better to break it off
And be the bitch
Than take it off
And be his bitch.

Of course it is all very problematic
But who are we to judge?
We all mask our frail insecurities
 marinate them with worry &
deep fry it till it becomes golden brown.

Mahanati Hangover

There is something about this movie. It has invigorated the romantic in me and stirred me so much that I have no option but pen my thoughts on it. It is not that the film is without flaws – the ‘innocent’ phase of savitri tests our patience , the film maybe guilty of being too in love with its protagonist and background score was sometimes just TOO loud and it ( perhaps understandably) hesitates to go too deep into the character’s psyche or action. However , the film soars above because of only one reason – Keerthy Suresh.

Right before I had the lucky opportunity to watch this movie (twice) , Keerthy Suresh was my least favourite actress. Maybe because she acted in Bhairavaa , Remo and Thodari – the three worst films inflicted on mankind. Maybe because she was more Loosu than ponnu in her loosu ponnu roles. She isn’t typically glamorous or stylish ( not that I particularly care) nor did she show any acting skill which would warrant her inclusion in all the latest films.
Until now.

She begun the movie with the usual bubbly , enthucutlet beats. I resigned myself for a dud. But then Gemini Ganesan A.K.A Dulquer A.K.A ‘Ammadi’ dropping Kadhal Mannan entered and the film sprang to life. We could see why she fell in love , even though there were huge warning signs everywhere. He isn’t a bad dude either. It is just life. Then comes her transition into ‘Mahanati’ / ‘ Nadigaiyar’ Thilagam’ . Although I haven’t watched any of the movies which she acted out in black and white I could see the greatness. I could see the Savitri in Keerthy. Ganga became Chandramukhi. There was something awesome about her walking elegantly to the Mahanati BGM. Like Rajini walking.

Then her heartbreak and downfall. Damn Keerthy is good. I’m assuming she used prosthetics for the heavy portions and she emoted so well. Maybe I am praising too much. But she was worth it.
Also , all this throws light on the fact that the tamil and telugu industry really need to pump out more scripts for their heroines. They used to in the 50’s, why can’t they now? When everything is apparently more advanced.

The sets and art design made me nostalgic for a time I know nothing about. Madras with trams and taxis looked so good, I wish there were more period movies made. They have a charm which we somehow are not able to capture in our ‘now’ movies.

The songs are so good. ‘Mouna Mazhayile’ is all shades of romantic and mesmerizing. Mahanati BGM is so regal and ‘ Irudiyil enna Minjum’ is just haunting…. The direction , shots were really beautiful. Telugu Cinema with Bahubali , Arjun Reddy and Mahanati now is showing how to be grand and good at the same time.

Alphabet Song

Image from the internet

We’re all at the Anonymous Café
Basking in each other’s misery
Cotton over our bleeding hearts
Defying Death and all her friends
Ever ready to give it another go
Fossiled memories motivating rather than defeating

Grape sized heart can carry
Such humongous weight
Ignominious defeats
Justifying its strength
Kudos to us all for still trying hard.

Lavish meals and meringue pies
Can only take you so far
Novice Romantics chuckle at us silently
Our orchestra of sadness drown them quiet easily.

Be proud of all the battle scars
Queer we are not for choosing this
Rocky path
Songs getting written by of us at this very moment
Taste of victory after testing times is the best after all.

Right?

So the Toads had an interesting prompt where you take a letter-word and run with it. I ran with the letters from A-T then ignored UVWXYZ because I already made my point.

Unbroken Again

So post number #175 it is

Unbroken Again

A cracked glass can’t be stuck again
That grandma of a person croaked.
We are in the age of Fevikwik and ready smiles.

So what if it is a plastered one
For the cameras?
They are better than fake candids atleast

The other day I realized
That my heart  got unbroken
I could feel only the feeling
That I couldn’t feel anything
And a twinge of sadness
That I’m not a wailing idiot
His star crossed lover.

My smile used to be a band aid over a bullet hole
Now the hole is no more
And my smile is whole again
But then

Why do I still mourn the hole?

Puddle

Mirror Mirror!
Cry me a river
The translucent teardrops
Are actually from my forehead
Nothing but stinky fruits of my labour.

The beads of perspiration form
An amoebic puddle
Modern art
Won’t sell for a penny today
Investment for tomorrow you see.

On it,
I see myself of yesterday
A cartoon faced kid
Who wanted to be a detective ,
Kaleidoscopic dance
Ripples of time,
Myself of Today
An adultish looking person
Staring at pools and puddles
Wanting to dream again.

The Green coloured building

Blanket of nostalgia
Wrapped me tightly
Like a burrito
When I woke up today.

Past memories weighed me down
Go back to sleep they said
Relive those joyous days
Their glory finally acknowledged

Faces of friends
Spaces I hung out
Their authentic traces intact
Beckon me home

Ships eventually sail
Drop the anchor now and then
Thirsty for mirage
I drink salt water

It is better to revisit the green coloured building
In my head
The paths and persons more familiar and friendly
So I shut my eyes tightly.

Good night!

Also : My juvenile post on farewell to the green coloured building is here
It is my old school - BVM. Sometimes I get strong dreams about my school life and hope that I can relive them. I'm pretty sure I will appreciate it more this time around.

Stay

So a regular reader and friend asked me to write a piece on romantic relationships. A more specific one actually but my mind meandered to this. Purely fictional for intents and purposes. An artistic piece if you can call it that

To think that
the only real relationship I ever had
was
the one I never had.

Beat my chest in pride,
every time I did the courageous karate
in the name of romance
with almost every other person
except you.

I could feel your patient gaze
silently sear through my back
as I strutted around town.
For you know for who I was  am.
A genuine hypocrite
Afraid of All.

Of your gentle embrace wrapping me up
in the near future,
actually play that reel in my head quite often.
Till I get giddy in fact.
You are my handsome secret.

Of me having to confront you
about these stupid feelings which engulf me
and make me powerless ,
you will never.
You rock at this waiting game
Not a level playing field actually.

Of you saying 'no',
For Fate and Circumstances
spare no one.

Of you saying 'yes' .
For Fate and Circumstance
spare no one.

I didn't want my epic romance
to be tarnished by the all too real life,
Twas very pretty and pristine
So I never took the chance.
Cautious for a change.

There was no element of doubt
about our commitment ,
only time when unspoken words made
so much more meaning
than the spoken ones.

Our eyes duelled in anger
each time we tried to dull our love
by truly moving on from each other,
So we pretended to fall in love
with likeable people we never liked.

I am thinking of you
and you are thinking of me.
Toxic flames and fumes
made of our mutual feelings
paralyse me forever.

I know it may sound sad
but it is real
And that is all that matters.

Give love a chance!
What about true happiness?
The lucky ones mutter under their breath.

Passion would eat us alive ,
Would
Could
Should
I don't want to live in the aftermath
So in this mental cove
I am going to stay.

Beginner's Guide to Virtual Stalking

Unfortunately, a lot of people know this already. However , they confuse it with 'love' and 'romance'. In the light of  recent murders and suicides involving the social media, I feel compelled to volunteer my opinion, Reading is completely at your discretion.

" Reading is completely at your discretion. " Stalkers don't understand the meaning of this line. 'Discretion' has no place in their dictionary. Or does 'consent'.

So steps to become a stalker.

1) Create an anonymous profile with a celebrity's / baby's picture on it to show off your innocence/ attractiveness. Mostly , it doesn't produce the desired effect though. It looks very shady , like the person is trying to not reveal their original identity and that never leads to meaningful relationships.
Vijay anna is famous
Ok , this works.

2) Add as many profiles of opposite gender as possible. When you send a 100 requests at least 10 get accepted and voila! suddenly you have 10 mutual friends with the next 'friend' you are adding , misleading them to think they somehow know you or that you are somehow not a danger.
No gain

3) Start chatting with the 'friends'. This is the most fun part. Some guys start with the 'thank you for the accept' and ' your dp looks very nice' routine which quickly evolves into 'give me your number'.
Opposite genders ( who am i kidding? GIRLS) , Please NEVER give your number. Once you give your number , you can't avoid round the clock nuisance , your location , privacy everything gets forsaken. Other guys for reasons unknown to mankind , keep sending 'hi' , sometimes 5 times a day and never go past 'sup?'  ' what did you do?' and never volunteer information about themselves and still think they are not creepy.
Took it from google

4) Then we come to the tipping point. As a stalker ( yes , going back to original mode) , it gets plenty frustrating when a girl doesn't reply to your heartfelt ( yet having no substance) messages or doesn't give you her number, That bitch! So you either call her names , abuse her for adding you in the first place , if she had given you personal info threaten to use it against her and the best of all , threaten to throw acid on her.
Hell hath no Fury

5) If you're an actual jerk  hurt lover, you carry out your threats.

Being a Facebook member for more than 7 years , all of what I typed has been endured by me except the 5th point. One guy actually threatened to throw acid on my face cz I dared to not give him my number. Can't reveal the chat because I blocked and reported and him and I have fantasy that he miraculously vanished from existence.

'Never add people you don't know' - is an often given advice and can be understood only the hard way. I am not saying all guys are stalkers. In fact , I have a lot of friends who I got to know through social media who are nice people. But there is a high risk of a lot of these types of people also when you add every person who sends you a request,
  • Add a person who you sure atleast 50 mutual friends with
  • Ask a close mutual friend about them just before adding them, No harm done,
  • Add people who share a common interest with you like blogging , cinema etc.
As for the 'stalkers' reading this. I know most of you aren't even intending to be stalkers and come off as ones because you don't know how to express yourselves. How about having an original profile , having genuine conversation and respecting the girl's wishes for once? You will have a better success rate . Trust me.

P.S - If a girl is clearly not interested in getting to know you , leave her alone. You deserve better. Respect yourself.

Hold on.

(A poem ,a song? I don't know , what I just wrote down. But , I wrote it with all my heart - at least the tiny broken pieces left of it )
P.s - all pics taken from google only.

HOLD ON

Hey you!
This moment ain’t permanent.
Embrace it.

I know it ain’t a new gospel
Or something.
But it is true.

There will come an international relations paper
Which gives you the feeling
That you aced it.
Embrace it.
Because it ain’t permanent bro.

This moment when you
Open your contracts question paper
Well prepared with all the
Expected questions of the
Last 5 years.
And life/god/nature/paper setter
Decides to ask that 20 mark question
Which has never been asked in the past
12 years.

Remember!
This also ain’t permanent bro.
Don’t embrace this godforsaken moment
Try shrinking it away by
Not giving it enough importance
Don’t repress it though ,
You might get cancer.
But that is because
Everything causes cancer nowadays.

Please hold on to that moment
When your lady love
Walks down the aisle
Clothed head to toe in white
And love , full of life.
Because
You might lose your best friend in a
Helicopter crash
And your lady love loses her left leg
And blames you
And you end up having to leave her
Since you forget when you laughed last .
Thank you Shonda Rhimes
You have taught me
That this moment ain’t permanent.

Damn you T.V shows.

If that isn't enough,
You are one moment in the 6th grade
Declaring you’ll all be besties for life
And the next moment
You are walking down the same streets
5 years later ,
With not even 1 bestie in sight
Separated by change in schools , colleges, cities
Not
Your dramatic fights , jealousy or treachery
Just
Life simply moving on
With or without you.

Time makes us forget , not care any more
Just move on to
Another set of unrelated events
to be embroiled in &
Which we strive to find meaning in.

We will never learn
To cope with all the broken hearts
And badly meandered relationships
The least we could try
Is to
Hold on to this moment
This beautiful one which you
Hope to recall
When a lorry is coming out of nowhere
To take your life

That safe moment
When your dad holds your hands in his
So casually yet so reassuringly.
That crazy moment when
You jumped off the seat
Watching a very funny movie with your friends.
Or quite simply
The ones after a very good meal.

Because brace yourself babies,
Life is just behind that curb
Waiting to bulldoze this
One moment
With a million messy ones

Hold on.
